ALBERTA ADAMS -- Hailing from Detroit, Adams toured in the '40s and '50s with the likes of Roy Eldridge and Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, recording now-prized sides for Chess Records. Four marriages, three children and three stepchildren later, Adams returned to record two CDs for the recently defunct Cannonball Records. Look for a mix of jump blues, New Orleans R&B and funky blues. Blind Willie's (Powell)

THE PARTY OF HELICOPTERS, JON FINLEY, RIZZUDO -- Now anticipating its third release, Party of Helicopters has moved from a straightforward wall of sound to a strongly structured mix of dream-pop vocals and righteous riffage that falls somewhere between Hum and heavy metal -- and well off to the side of likeminded bands who tend to take themselves way too seriously (e.g., Don Caballero). Lured to town by Stickfigure Distribution, Jon Finley, the former Helicopters drummer, opens for his previous band with his blues-meets-beats take on the atmospheric one-man-band. Atlanta's own Rizzudo is a highly calculated math rock band made up of three brothers. Imagine an Irish Rush. The Earl (Ware)

SISTER HAZEL, CHUCK CARRIER -- Sister Hazel, the overwrought, undercooked and way-past-their-expiration date jam band from Gainesville, Fla., headlines this frat-friendly evening that also features a solo set from Marathon leader Chuck Carrier. Sold out. Smith's Olde Bar (Smith)
