When it comes to art by African-American artists, work from the Northeast and the Deep South usually enjoys pride of place in museum and gallery shows. Meanwhile, no love goes to artists dealing with the black cowboys, rodeo stars, bandits and gunslingers of the American West. The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville unearths work in this tradition in THE BLACK WEST: BUFFALO SOLDIERS, BLACK COWBOYS & UNTOLD STORIES. The show features 65 works by 16 contemporary artists hailing from the former frontiers of Arizona, Colorado and Texas, among other states. Through March 22. Free-$8. Tues.-Wed., Fri.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thurs., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 1-5 p.m. 501 Museum Drive. 770-387-1300. www.boothmuseum.org.
