Visual Art: Cool vs. Cruel

Mon., April 16

There's no denying it: Fashion is cruel. All those adolescent models starving themselves into human string beans. And the poor minks and foxes: They're just pelts in Karl Lagerfeld's house of pain. And the attitude. Sometimes those fashion editors just aren't very nice. In COOL VS. CRUEL: FROM FUR TO FAUX (pictured), an art exhibition that recognizes the suffering beauty brings, Art Institute fashion-design students (collaborating with the Humane Society) from around the country were asked to refashion a top designer's outfit using sustainable synthetics and vegetable-based products. The results (broccoli sweaters?) are on view Mon., APRIL 16, and through May 12, at the Art Institute of Atlanta's gallery space. Free. Mon.-Thurs., 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fri., 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sat., 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, 100 Embassy Row. 770-394-8300.
