Upcoming: Short List

STOMP, Fringe Factory and more

January 28 Wednesday

Few can create appealing noise, let alone rhythm, with a combination of Zippo lighters, ladders and brooms. In STOMP, presented by Theater of the Stars at the Fox Theatre, an eight-member international cast of percussionists does just that. Using ingenuity and lots of energy, the group mixes comedy with matches, trash cans and more to prove that a junkyard can be just as entertaining as an instrument shop. Through Feb. 1. $20-$52. Wed.-Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 5 and 9 p.m.; Sun., 1:30 and 6 p.m. 660 Peachtree St. 404-817-8700. (Lizzy Encarnacao)

January 31 Saturday

FRINGE FACTORY DJs Vikki V and Suzy Q celebrate their one-year anniversary of throwing pretty much the most extravagant monthly soul, garage-rock and psychedelic parties Atlanta has seen in a good, long while. For this go-around, they've called back several guest DJs who have torn it up at previous Fringe Factory functions, including Kurt Wood (the Woggles), Matt K (Double Dynamite), Boss Jonezy and Gran Lusso (Southern Soul Soundsystem), and Chris Devoe. $7. 9 p.m. Highland Inn Ballroom Lounge, 644 N. Highland Ave. 404-874-5756. (Chad Radford)

January 31 Saturday

Prepare to be terrified. Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah are all back in the United States, thanks to the folks at Silver Scream Spook Show. GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK conjures up a night of monsters and mayhem, with the ladies from Blast-Off Burlesque dancing in the face of destruction. Get geared up for the pre-movie costume contest and Godzilla himself in a live giant-monster battle. $7-$10. Matinee, 1 p.m.; late show, 10 p.m. Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. 404-873-1939. (Gloria Love)
