TAMMY ALLEN -- An acoustic artist who brews up delightfully dizzying concoctions of jazz, folk, funk and Third World sounds, Tammy Allen is a soulful singer whose lyrics offer social commentary that ranges from sweet to biting. Brandyhouse (Nicoll)

DONNIE -- Along with India Arie, retro-soul singer Donnie was the flagship artist of Atlanta's neo-soul Earthseed collective. But while Arie has becomes new soul's international ambassador, Donnie has laid low over the past year. He resurfaces tonight, headlining a show in support of his debut national release, Excerpts From the Colored Section on New York's Giant Step label. With only three songs -- and old ones at that -- it's not much, but it serves to preview the talented singer/songwriter's first full-length, coming later this year. Anthony David also performs. eleven50 (Sarig)

99X FAT TUESDAY -- Scruffy singer/songwriter Pete Yorn, along with punky upstarts Jimmy Eat World and Lit, headline upstairs, with newbies holding court down at the Cotton Club. None of the music has anything to do with Mardi Gras -- which this benefit show supposedly celebrates -- but wearing beads might heighten the fun factor. Tabernacle/Cotton Club (Horowitz)

WRFG MARDI GRAS -- Barrell House Bob Page, Ross Pead & Friends, and the ever-popular Seed & Feed Marching Abominables perform 5-9 p.m. at this Radio Free Georgia fund raiser in honor of Fat Tuesday. Little Five Points Community Center (Sarig)
