Tommy Castro and the Painkillers

When: Tue., Jan. 28, 9 p.m. 2014

The hard-touring guitarist/vocalist Castro has won plenty of blues awards since he started his own band in 1993, but his music is more roots rock than pure blues. Soul, gospel, funk, and New Orleans R&B influences also push his tough four piece into rollicking directions that have made him a “next big thing” contender on the blues scene almost since he turned pro. That never happened but it’s not for lack of trying since Castro always brings it live.
