Jewish Theatre of the South opened its 13th season this past weekend with COMPARING BOOKS, a comedy reminiscent of the Marlon Brando/Matthew Broderick Godfather satire The Freshman. A hapless Brown University student (Eric Mendenhall) finds himself in hock to the Mob, and a leg-breaking enforcer (Jeff Portell) seems more interested in his sister (Sharon Zoe Litziky) and his father's rare-books collection than squaring the debt. Books playwright Marc Goldsmith was a hit at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival with his play Danny Boy. The play continues Wed., OCT. 17, and through Nov. 4. $22-$30. Wed.-Thurs., 8 p.m.; Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 3 p.m. 5342 Tilly Mill Road. 770-395-2654. www.jplay.org.
