Over the past few years, a handful of young mixologists have reawakened our city's interest in the art of the cocktail. While many people are familiar with spots such as Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House, the Bar at Trois gets little recognition despite landing a spot on Esquire magazine's list of "The Best Bars in America." The ultrachic bar, located on the first floor of Trois, is decked out in lavish fabrics and hypermodern textures — we're especially mesmerized by the tiny lights in the aluminum floor that resemble the twinkling stars of the night sky.
Eric Simpkins, who worked under "libation goddess" Audrey Saunders, has devised an innovative and seasonal cocktail menu complete with whimsical descriptions and fascinating back-stories. The current menu showcases refreshing concoctions such as the "Bees knees," a vibrant mixture of honey, fresh lemon juice and gin, and the stellar "Gin-gin mule," a frothy mojito made with ginger beer and gin. If you're feeling the burn from a bit of overindulgence – an easy slip with drinks this good – buy yourself some insurance for the morning after with one of the bar's small bites such as the calamari or gourmet sliders.
