After 35 years of promoting equality of the sexes through the arts, Charis Books & More celebrates its birthday with more than just cake for FEMINISM, BOOKS & BEYOND. The bookstore and its nonprofit sister organization, Charis Circle, present poetry, discussions, music and discounts. The party kicks off Wednesday with open-mic performances in a joint reception for the ATLANTA QUEER LITERARY FESTIVAL. Celebrations continue Thursday with Founding the Future, a discussion featuring second-wave feminist and journalist Gloria Steinem as well as Beverly Guy-Sheftall, an organizer of black women's studies in the collegiate sphere. Friday features Artists & Revolutionaries, with Pearl Cleage, the Indigo Girls and Alice Walker. Author signings and cake conclude the festivities Saturday and Sunday. Free-$35. Charis Books & More, 1189 Euclid Ave. 404-524-0304. www.chariscircle.org. For literary fest, see website for a complete schedule, including venues. www.atlqueerlitfest.blogspot.com.
