THURS/MARCH 1
ERYKAH BADU, MUSIQ SOULCHILD, TALIB KWELI -- See Erykah Badu article. Taste the all-natural, sandalwood and soul food meditations offered by Philadelphia's Musiq Soulchild and New York City's Talib Kweli, as the pair cook up an organic stew with Badu. Prix fixe menu includes Musiq's R&B hit "Girlfriend," select cuts from rapper Kweli's Reflection Eternal album and damn near anything Erykah feels like fixin'. This one's sold (souled?) out, but the same line-up returns to the Fox March 27. Fox Theatre (Dames)

CRYBABY, CENTIPEDE, FANCY -- Crybaby is a new Atlanta band featuring the enigmatic Kelly Sirmans. Tonight, the prolific quartet debuts songs from its new EP, the first in a planned series of six to be released during the course of this calendar year. Also on the bill, two other promising recent additions to the local scene: Florida transplants Centipede, boasting a new EP of their own, feature a glammy, melodic rock sound; and ex-Myssouri-ans Fancy, who've brightened the approach of their former band considerably. Echo Lounge (Smith/Sarig)

BEN HARPER & THE INNOCENT CRIMINALS -- Ben Harper, please stand up. Harper has toured relentlessly for nearly a decade now, coaxing gems from his hollow neck Weissenborn slide guitar while sitting down on stage. Despite his laconic persona, Harper channels a live-wire mix of Stevie, Marley, Dylan and Son House. But as Ben sits, so has the record-buying public, at least until his current release, Burn to Shine, finally started moving product. He gives us his best. He deserves better. Classic Center/Athens (Whitaker)

KICKSTAND, VITO -- Guitarist/vocalist Ray Dafrico (KTO, the Nightporters, Soulfinger) is the heart and soul of this furiously rocking combo, which recently added six-string slinger Jeff Guinness (Dragline, Dry County Drunks) to its already powerful line-up. Also on the bill is the lo-fi pop of Vito, whose music suggests a love of the Beach Boys and Big Star. Star Bar (Nicoll)

MODERN HERO -- Charismatic Hero Jeffrey Butts should be smiling more than usual tonight. Not only does his band have a new CD containing his best work yet (including some re-recordings of old favorites), but he's also a proud papa. So congratulate him, but only after he works his latest trio through a frenzied selection of material from Modern Hero's debut CD, Threedom in Stereo. Smith's Olde Bar (Smith)

DAVE VAN RONK -- Now in his sixth decade of performing, Van Ronk is one of the last remaining true folkies of the golden era. He combines his love of classic gut-bucket blues and unique picking style to create his signature sound, and he can tell some amazing stories. Blind Willie's (Kelly)

WEAKLAZYLIAR, COOPER SEAY, ALASTOR -- An evening of female acoustic rock. Weaklazyliar's Gerlinda Grimes is no weakling when it comes to composing compelling songs and delivering a passionate performance. Likewise for Alastor's Elizabeth Elkins, although her material often has a darker and more accusatory tone. Both ladies learned well from former Viva La Diva bandleader Cooper Seay, who's still a force to be reckoned with. Eddie's Attic (Nicoll)
