December 23 Wednesday

It's been so long since Austell natives MAMMALS played a show around town, no one can remember just how long ago it was when they last took the stage. For this quasi-reunion, half the duo's original lineup – guitarist Justin Bauman – has assembled a few former members of the Barberries to resurrect the group's noise-afflicted pop and ramshackle rock numbers. Heavy Cream and Natural Child come all the way from Nashville to open the show. $5. 9 p.m. Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. www.starbaratlanta.com. (Chad Radford)

More than 40 years ago, Paul R. Jones was shocked at the minimal amount of African-American art showcased in museums. He decided to collect as much of it as he could, starting with works purchased from Atlanta street artists. Jones' passion for art resulted in the PAUL R. JONES COLLECTION, the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of African-American art in the world. The collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings dates from the 18th century to the present. Through Jan. 16. Free. Wed.-Fri., 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sat., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Studio Clout, 144 Walker St. 404-688-2787. www.studioclout.com. (Quatoyiah Murry)
