The Sembler Co. will break ground on its super-sized development on Atlanta Gas Light's Moreland Avenue property in early August, possibly the first week, according to Sembler spokesman Angelo Fuster.
Sembler expects to close on AGL's property just south of Little Five Points by the end of July. The value of the deal hasn't been released. But the ultimate cost of the project is around $110 million.
The project, a mix of residential units, big box retailers, and smaller, Main Street USA-type shops and restaurants, will be open for business as early as March 2005.
The larger stores include Target, Best Buy, Lowe's, Kroger, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Barnes & Noble. Most of the neighbors have given the project their support, but a minority of residents have been less enthusiastic, wary of its size and the prospect of the 20,000 car trips that studies say the project will generate.
