Remembrance ceremony of the Nagasaki bombing

Only one country has ever dropped a nuclear bomb — the United States — and the USA dropped two. While most people are aware of the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during World War II, not so many
remember that the United States dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan three days after Hiroshima, instantly killing another 74,000 civilians. The Japanese government recognizes about 300,000 people that died as a result of the two atomic bombs the U.S. dropped in a single week in 1945.

On Aug. 9, more than 50 members of the Atlanta peace and justice community came together to remember the Nagasaki bombing. Song, dance, poetry and prayer marked the remembrance at the Carter Center Rose Garden. The event was sponsored by WAND (Women's Action for New Directions).
