In the grand scheme of alternative rock, the Flaming Lips have been weirder and more prolific than anyone else. The group's success has always centered around wrapping sweet pop melodies in acid-drenched randomness that, often times, seems like it's being strange for the sake of it (for more on this see "She Don’t Use Jelly," "Do You Realize," "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," et al). However, there’s always something deeper going on with Wayne Coyne and Co.'s madness. Just after performing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at this year's Hang Out Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala., the Lips make their way to Atlanta to headline the "Party in the Park" with Young the Giant, Awolnation, Dawes, and Ponderosa.
