Os Mutantes experienced its initial peak at the height of Brazil’s Tropicália scene of the 1960s. Throughout the decades, the group’s blend of colorful psychedelic music left an indelible mark on an array of modern pop artists such as David Byrne, Beck, Stereolab, and more. Os Mutantes’ influence stems from its vibrant aesthetic — a characteristic that led the band down more adventurous and nonsensical paths than peers such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Tom Zé. Now supporting its latest album, Fool Metal Jack, Os Mutantes plays Atlanta on Fri., Nov. 15.
