Defy the recessionary gloom of 2009 and begin 2010 on a fancy, froufrou note at the ASO NEW YEAR'S EVE. For the first half of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's annual pops concert for auld lang syne, Michael Krajewski conducts a program of light classics, including Rossini's "William Tell Overture" and Saint-Saëns's "Danse Macabre," as well as selections by Offenbach, Ponchielli, Marquez and Strauss. For the second half, Sylvia McNair, a two-time Grammy Award winner, croons such American standards as "Georgia on My Mind" (of course), "The Man I Love," "Summertime" and a medley of Richard Rodgers waltzes. It's a classy way to say "Good riddance" to a lousy decade. $30-$68. 8 p.m. Dec. 31. Atlanta Symphony Hall, 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-5000. www.atlantasymphony.org.
