ERIC CLAPTON, DOYLE BRAMHALL II -- Now that Clapton's gotten that nasty blues out of his system on last year's B.B. King collaboration, it's back to snooze-ville as his pleasant, but hardly inspiring Reptile album slithers into familiar adult-pop terrain. Live there'll surely be more raw fret firepower, especially since tough Texas blues-rock opener and Clapton band member Bramhall's hot new album is a rough-and-tumble corker. The nation's largest free jazz festival, the ATLANTA JAZZ FESTIVAL, kicks off this week with events scheduled at venues around the city. More than 100 performers including Sonny Rollins, Patti Austin, Russell Gunn (xxx), Medeski Martin & Wood and more stir up traditional, Latin, experimental and smooth jazz sounds at Woodruff Park, Underground Atlanta, Hartsfield International Airport and Chastain Park May 21-25.
