Lust List 2013: Devon

2013 Lust List Party

Sat., Feb. 16 at Halo | RSVP

Job: Owner, Pal's Lounge

Age: 33

Relationship status: Not married

He didn't pursue law like his parents, or medicine like his brother, but that didn't stop Devon from going into the other family business. Like his great grandfather before him, Devon owns Pal's Lounge, the down-home music landmark on Auburn Avenue. An aspiring musician, he's a rare breed of bar owner who doesn't drink, in fact, he's never even tasted alcohol. When he's not doing his funky thing at Pal's, you can find him fawning over his beloved flat-black '76 Camaro, or composing movie scores in his spare time. Is he single? Probably. Taken? Possibly. When asked about his relationship status, Devon simply says he's "not married." Still interested? Here's some advice: He's a sucker for a pretty face and someone who compliments his bar. Just don't tell him you think he looks like Lenny Kravitz.

What's your standard drink?

I don't drink. But when I walk into a bar, I might order a Shirley Temple or something. It kinda looks like a cocktail.

What do you wish someone would hurry up and invent?

A time machine. I'd like to go back and talk to all the funky people in the world. It wouldn't be bad to know a few lottery numbers, either.

Is there a drawback to being attractive?

I'm not sure. I don't think so.

What's your pettiest relationship deal-breaker?

I don't like when people have bad attitudes. When people are unpleasant to be around, I'm not into that. I'm also not into girls who have ugly feet. I think I don't like a bad attitude more than I don't like ugly feet, because they can put shoes on.

With whom would you like to play Truth or Dare?

Pam Grier in the '70s.

What's the most romantic place in Atlanta?

My bed.

What's your weirdest recurring dream?

When I was younger, Mr. T used to be in my dreams all the time. He would be following me around and kinda talkin' to me. A repeating Mr. T in your dream is little bit crazy. He used to kind of scare me, but he was my friend, too, though.

Have you ever stolen a friend's girlfriend?

What's your own character flaw you'd most like to fix?

I wish I could be more disciplined sometimes. It's the key to doing everything, I think.

What band were you obsessed with when you were 14?

What's your guiltiest pleasure?

Soda. Specifically, Sunkist. I feel guilty when I drink it, probably because it makes me dehydrated.

What's your least favorite household chore?

Laundry. I like the fluff-and-fold service where you drop your stuff off and when you come back it's all folded.

Describe your relationship to exercise.

I'm pretty active, so my body requires exercise or I start feelin' crazy.

What's the last thing that made you cry?

The death of my aunt.

What's the last good book you read?

I'm in the process of reading The Mysticism of Sound and Music [by Hazrat Inayat Khan]. He's a Sufi teacher in India and he kinda talks about how music and sound relate to the body and I think it's kinda funky because I'm a musician and think it's cool how vibrations correlate to organs and colors.

What's the lamest pickup line anyone's used on you?

"You know, Lenny Kravitz is my favorite artist."

What movie would you most like to live in?

The Wizard of Oz.

What's the first album you bought with your own money?

It had to have been one of the Michael Jackson albums, maybe Bad.

What's the best way for a customer to hit on you?

If somebody comes to my spot and they're like, "I love this bar, this is my favorite place in Atlanta."

Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Who's a good actor? Will Smith? I just don't want somebody to play me who looks like me but can't act.

What's the one thing you most hope to accomplish this year?

I have an album coming out so I'd like for that to be well-received. I have a musical that I'm working on, so I'd like to finish that. And I'm doing some renovations at my bar so I'd like to finish that.

What's your least favorite thing about Atlanta?

I think that for all the diversity that's here, it's about time to move past the segregated aspect.

Name one thing you've stolen.

I guess maybe I've stolen some time from some people.

Who's the most important person in your life?

My mom.

What's your sexy-time soundtrack?

Sade will put you all the way there, so, you know.

Have you ever been dumped? If so, what was the reason?

In middle school. The girl chose another dude over me, one of my friends or something, and I remember she said something about my attitude.

What would you order for your last meal?

I don't want to die with anything too heavy in my stomach so I might just go ahead and go with a little salad.

How much would you charge to murder a stranger?

Well, if it's a bad person, if it's somebody that doesn't really need to be living any longer then we can go ahead and get this out of the way. We don't have to put anything down on it.

How do you handle rejection?

I just try to handle it and get through it.

What did your parents want you to do with your life?

They want me to do whatever I want to do, but they probably would've rather I'd been a lawyer or a doctor.

Have you ever stalked someone on Instagram?

No, I'm just kinda getting acclimated to Instagram.

How often do you talk to your mother?

Every other day, maybe a little bit less. A couple times a week.

What's your preferred footwear?

What's your wackiest piece of personal trivia?

I grew up doing horseback riding. I mean that's kind of weird, to be from East Point and you're playing basketball and you're having to go to horseback riding class at some point.

What personal attribute are you a sucker for?

A pretty face. A nice body. I'm a sucker for a good-looking woman.

Where would you go on a bucket list vacation?

I would like to go to Mt. Kilamanjaro, the Great Wall of China, or go see the pyramids.

Not counting rent or bills, where does most of your disposable income go?

What's your life's ambition/grandest dream?

To really be successful in my business and in my art.

If you had to spend $1 million in one afternoon, what would you do?

I'd buy a bunch of clothes and food and feed homeless people and kids in the city.

Why do you think someone nominated you for the Lust List?

I don't know. Maybe I have a few stalkers or something.
