It’s tough to think that rapper Lupe Fiasco’s breakthrough album Food & Liquor came out seven years ago; it still sounds fresh and, two albums later, he’s still delivering thoughtful and relatively innovative rhymes in a mellow throwback style. Extended shelf life for a talented contemporary rapper? Unfortunately, that’s a rarity. But Lupe’s forthcoming Tetsuo & Youth and its first single, “Old School Love,” turn up the nostalgia for the Chicago rapper’s youth. Over the hill at just 31? That’s the rap world.
