Hip-Hop Lends a Hand
Kicking in $50,000 of his own money, T.I. took over hip-hop/R&B radio station V-103 (WVEE-FM 103.3) on Labor Day. He raised more than $250,000 with the help of Young Jeezy and other ATLiens to benefit Katrina survivors through Mississippi poster child David Banner's Heal the Hood foundation. Then, on Thurs., Sept. 8, a group of promoters banned together for a Katrina benefit hosted by Dallas Austin and Organized Noize at eleven50 and raised $27,000 for the Red Cross and Hosea Williams' Feed the Hungry. Big Boi, Cee-lo, and producer Bryan Michael Cox are just a few who chipped in for the good cause.
Open Mic and Say F@#k!
Josh Rifkind, the hilarious and prone-to-salty-language host and CEO of Open Mic Madness, reminds all bands and solo acts that they can apply now at www.openmicmadness.com for a slot at the Oct. 3-8 event at Smith's Olde Bar. Be warned: He says the F-word very fuckin' often on stage. One night, a friend and I tried to drink every time he said that word. That was the night Smith's ran outta booze.
Oh So Sexxxy
Remember Sexxxy Cirkus? Well, the band resurfaced recently to announce that it would play the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood on Sunday (Sept. 11). The same venue once served as a showcase for the Doors, the Mothers of Invention, X, the Go-Go's and many others. At press time, the bandmates were also scheduled to stay in Jim Morrison's condo while in L.A. Write 'em and ask if they saw the Lizard King's ghost: firstname.lastname@example.org.

A Compilation Fit for a Priest
Do people actually listen to compilation CDs? Here's one to hear: "In the Basement," the opening track from Hot Young Priest's EP, is featured on British label Smalltown America's next CD of new artists. The collection, called Public Service Broadcast 7, also includes songs by We Versus the Shark, Housewife and the Holy Ghost and should be available by the time you read this. HYP plays Sept. 23 with Cracker at the Roxy Theatre.
