It wasn't long ago when Sharks and Minnows gigged around town, working rooms like the Earl and the Echo Lounge and drawing a loyal audience. In the wake of its demise in early 2005, brothers Christopher and Devin Simony have formed a new band called League of Evil.
"Sharks and Minnows was pretty poppy. It started out as a punk-rock band, so all the songs were short and to the point," says Chris of his former group. "I wanted to do stuff that was more experimental."
League of Evil includes Chris on guitar and vocals, Devin on keyboards, bassist Chris Parizo, drummer Adam Young, and guitarist Jeff Cobb. Since last summer, the quintet rehearsed at Eric Friar's (Heros Severum) studio in Athens, trying "to figure out what we sounded like," says Chris, who plays guitar and sings. The result, at least to these ears, is dramatic atmospheric, augmented by electronic effects.
League of Evil recorded a four-song demo, which the band will hand out "to whoever wants it" during a concert headlined by Textbook Sat., Feb. 11, at the Earl. You can also hear the songs on the League's website, www.loemusic.com.
