I love your thought-provoking writing and comic spirit.
I read your piece "Catch and release" (News & Views, July 9) and was absolutely not surprised by the police officer's response to the business break-in on Edgewood [Avenue]. I regularly have pointless conversations with various Atlanta police in downtown and I am seldom impressed with their level of professionalism. They acknowledge the occurrence of people violating laws before their eyes (wink wink, nod nod), but do not want to initiate any gestures of enforcement. Their assumption is too little reward. Easier to wait until someone gets hit by a car running a red light. Unless there's a dead body blocking a traffic intersection, why bother? After a while vigilantism begins to look like a preferred choice of action.
