Lee Fields has released a dozen albums dating back to the '70s. That includes 2012's Faithful Man — a slow-burning expression of a man who's been perfecting his craft for decades. Like veteran singers Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, the sixtysomething throwback wailer continues to tour with his tight-knit backing band, the Expressions. Like his Daptone Records counterparts, his shows are less of an attempt at revival and more of a reaffirmation of soul's heyday. More importantly, the North Carolina native's onstage charisma naturally lends itself to an enthralling live show. It's a must-see for fans of the genre.
