For the world premiere of Gut Bucket Blues, True Colors Theatre Company harks back to the reign of "The Empress of the Blues," Bessie Smith, who became one of the most popular singers of the 1920s and 1930s. Adrienne Reynolds plays Smith in a show that traces the arc of her career, from humble beginnings in Chattanooga to playing gigs with Louis Armstrong. David H. Bell, who worked with True Colors artistic director Kenny Leon when both were with the Alliance Theatre, returns to Atlanta to write and direct the show, which co-stars Jahi Kearse, JC Long, Christopher Morgan, Latrice Pace and Amber Iman.
