Get the truck out of here!

Neighbors in the well-to-do Lake Lanier/Buford area are fighting a shipping company's plan to build a massive 24-hour trucking depot between two residential neighborhoods.

AAA Cooper Transportation is asking the Buford City Commission for permission to build a 150-dock shipping depot on 27 acres.

The entrance to the facility would be on Blackberry Lane, a 1.1 mile street that is home to about 30 families. The depot would attract between 150 to 200 shipping trucks every 24 hours. That much traffic -- and the clear-cutting necessary to build the depot -- would ruin the surrounding communities, says Seth Stanley, who lives less than a mile from the proposed site.

Stanley also says the transient nature of the trucking industry would bring drugs and prostitution to the area.
