CATFIGHT!, EL CAMINOS, DOGFIGHT -- Two of Atlanta's flagship punk acts pair up for a double-blast of overdriven guitar fury. The mighty El Caminos pack the most muscle here, but the three grrrls of Catfight! have the sharper hooks. Also on the bill is local punk trio Fragile X, who celebrate the release of their debut CD, Plan B, at tonight's show. Weird thing is, they apparently won't be playing any songs from the record, since they're appearing as Catfight!'s all-male tribute act, Dogfight. Plan B indeed. Star Bar (Nicoll/Sarig)

BOB DIPIERO -- One of country music's most prolific (and successful) songwriters, Bob DiPiero has composed No. 1 country hits for such artists as Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, George Strait and Vince Gill. A performer as well as a songwriter, this year DiPiero released a collection of songs from his performances at Nashville's legendary Bluebird Cafe. Swallow at the Hollow (Hutchinson)

EPIDEMIC -- Mirage Entertainment presents the acidic bounce and hard, breakbeat trance of Moonshine Recording artist Micro, the turntablist tricks of Doc Roc, the uplifting fierce vocal house of DJ Keri, the drum 'n' bass of Danny the Wildchild, Dread and Phantom 45, and more. Masquerade (Ware)

FIVE-EIGHT -- One of Athens' longest-running bands, Five-Eight's most recent release, The Good Nurse, is a soberingly serious concept album. Live, don't expect a somber or, by any means, low-volume set. Led by hyperactive frontman Mike Manitone, a guitarist who often frees himself from the boundaries of the stage, the trio typically span their career hits and include a few off-the-wall covers. Smith's Olde Bar (Smith)

FLEX -- Karma introduces a new weekly party to highlight Atlanta's young talent. Starboy, J-Luv, Bobble, Marcos Piaras, Michael Scott, Greg Adamson, Jason Gerry, E-3 and more spin deep house and UK garage. Karma (Ware)

GWEN HUGHES AND THE RETRO JAZZ KATS -- Popular local jazz singer Gwen Hughes and her band of jazz veterans kick off Callanwolde's "All Jazz" concert series with a performance under the stars. For information, call 404-872-5338. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center (Sarig)

JEREMY HEALY -- Continuing their monthly residency, San Francisco's Spundae keep bringing more bang for the buck with a rare appearance by UK DJ Jeremy Healy, known for his intense progressive house sets. Spundae regular Grant Plant, as well as popular local J-Luv, also DJ the main room, with Kevin O. and Earthtone's Eric Zheno rockin' the house in the courtyard. eleven50 (Ware)

NEW POWER TRIO -- Virtuosity and restraint are more often rivals than allies in jazz. Not so with the New Power Trio, a Latin-flavored acoustic act with the combined chops and taste of a kung-fu gourmet. Throw sparse piano arrangements in with lyrical bass harmonies, lay down the Afro-Cuban stomp and shake vigorously. Churchill Grounds (Hutchinson)

99X BIGGER DAY OUT -- The relentless barrage of radio spots touts this event as something akin to the Second Coming. Beyond the hype, however, are some worthy participants: Jimmy Eat World, Tricky, Dave Navarro and the re-united Living Colour and rising locals Rehab and Sevendust. These acts will perhaps ameliorate the more pedestrian choices (Lit, 311, Tantric, among others) that predominate a lineup as tight as the 99X playlist itself. No matter -- the hordes will lap it up regardless. Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre (Madigan)

DEXTER ROMWEBER, WHITE LIGHTS -- North Carolina wildman Romweber is the irrepressible, twisted genius who led the Flat Duo Jets back through new wave's heyday. Still crazy after all these years, Romweber celebrates the release of a new solo CD this evening. Opening this show are the White Lights, Atlanta's answer to the Velvet Underground & Nico, who celebrate the release of their own new CD. The Earl (Nicoll)

SHUTEYE RECORDS FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION -- Compilation king Pete Knapp and his staff are looking back at the Atlanta-based label's history with a "Five Years of Functional Hedonism" party. Kenny Howes and the Yeah!, Atomsplit, Soundtrack Mind and the Intergalactic Cowboy all perform, along with a few surprises. Echo Lounge (Smith)

CLAY WALKER -- A pop-savvy country crooner in touch with his sensitive side, Clay Walker has the kind of razor-sharp voice that could skin the hair off a healthy, full-grown steed. Sure, the mainstream country cliches are there -- deep and throaty voice cracks, nasal falsetto -- but for a hitmaker, Walker delivers the emotional goods. Cowboys (Hutchinson)
