Goldfinger works in both print and interactive media, producing everything from a single logo to an entire ad campaign. They also do "artist development," where they polish a performer's image with the aid of various trainers and stylists.
Warfield started out as a painter/illustrator. His talents led him to design clothing for apparel companies such as Oaktree, J. Riggins and Shifty's, where he met lots of style-conscious music industry folk. Eventually he landed a job as head gear designer for Tommy Boy.
He worked his way to a position as creative director at LaFace Records, until co-presidents Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds merged the company with BMG/Arista. Rather than follow them, Warfield took the opportunity to strike out on his own.
Among the many artists he has helped market during his tenure at LaFace and now with his own team: Blackstreet, Bone Crusher, Toni Braxton, Killer Mike, Monica, OutKast, Pink, Q-Tip, TLC, and Usher.
When Warfield was creative director at LaFace, he got to know an up-and-coming urban music artist/skater punk who would occasionally baby-sit his kids. He thought it would help her image if she colored her hair to match her nickname: Pink. "I said, 'Yo, you gotta dye your hair pink.' And so I found the dye that she hit it big with."
Why did he name his company Goldfinger? "It's not a James Bond thing, it just sounds cool. Plus, I wanted to build a brand that was more than just my name. There are other guys that work with me, too!"
Unique cross-training: Warfield got a bachelor's degree in painting from Washington University in St. Louis, which he attended on an athletic scholarship for track and football.
Some of his favorite Atlanta hangouts: Virginia-Highland, Lenox Square, Wish , the Vortex, Vinocity, Whiskey Peach and Fogo de Chao.
"I'm a big-time sports guy. I play flag football, run track, play baseball, work out. If I had to choose between going to the club and the gym, I'd hit the gym."
Other interests: "I like to restore old furniture. I also go to a lot of movies and listen to a lot of music. I read a lot, including a lot of magazines focusing on general design, homes and interiors, industrial design."
