Death Grips

When: Sun., Oct. 28, 9 p.m. 2012

Pared down to drummer Zach Hill (Hella) and vocalist Stefan "MC Ride" Burnett, Death Grips wrenches mutant hip-hop, industrial beats, and tough-guy hardcore into noisy anthems that are as progressively avant-garde as they are brutal. Burnett's guttural bark weighed against a glitched-out, slow-and-low production gives rise to a modern-primitive grind that's driven by unrestrained male anxiety and aggression. After sneaking out 2011's Exmilitary mixtape, followed by Money Store (Epic Records) and the No Love Deep Web EP this year, such songs as "Guillotine," "Get Got," and "No Love" have quickly ripped open a fourth dimension around the group — one that's both sinister and psychotic, where caveman emotions collide with machine-like elegance, culminating in a sound that's as hard as concrete under your feet.
