Carolina Chocolate Drops, the Two Man Gentlemen Band

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 8 p.m. 2012

Inspired by African-American Piedmont Blues pickers, Carolina Chocolate Drops make old-timey Americana — even employing a jug and washboard — with modern flair (see their covers of Blu Cantrell's "Hit 'em Up Style" and Run DMC's "You Be Illin"). Five hard years of work was rewarded with a major-label deal and Best Traditional Folk Album Grammy for 2010's Genuine Negro Jig. February's Leaving Eden is good, but the group is still finding its voice following the departure of vocalist Justin Robinson.
