There are a few things that immediately strike us about this complex of loft-style apartments and shops. First: The name works. Unlike so many developments whose names seem to promise proximity to nonexistent lakes, forests or glens, Parkside actually is right on Piedmont Park. But there's more than accurate nomenclature here. Parkside represents a departure from Post Properties' old toss-'em-up, rent-'em-out quickie "garden complexes. It grew from Post CEO John Williams epiphany that Atlanta's development patterns had to change. The loft-style units come with 19 different floor plans, ranging from an $885 efficiency to the two-bedroom, two-bath 1,671-square-foot loft models starting at $2,650 a month. They're built around quaint courtyards. And they smoothly combine several features of "New Urbanism aimed at making our cities more livable: street-level restaurants and other commercial amenities; off-street parking; savvy re-use of "brownfield space (i.e., no trees were cut for the project); and a nice mix of price ranges, meaning the urban worker bee can actually share hive-space with upper-income buzzers.
