Salman Rushdie

Staff Pick

Odds are, you’re not going to run into SALMAN RUSHDIE while having a beer at the Local or getting your car’s emissions checked. During his five-year residence at Emory University, the British-Indian literary superstar spends only part of his time in Atlanta, and otherwise jets off to appear in, say, Scarlett Johansson music videos. But even as a part-time resident, Rushdie raises Atlanta’s literary profile through lectures and other events, such as this year’s live reading from Samuel Beckett’s collected letters with playwright Edward Albee. When his residency ends, we should try to get The Satanic Verses author to hang around Georgia and set a spell, y’hear?
