Best Reason for Cultural Imperialism

Sure, the distance between Athens and Atlanta is about the same as the distance between, say, New York and Philadelphia -- and you don't find people talking about the Strokes and The Roots as if they're all part of the same "music scene." Down here, though, the big boys in Atlanta are more than happy to take credit for the accomplishments of the ATHENS MUSIC SCENE -- that is, the "greater Atlanta area" scene that happens to be full of great bands from the college town 70 miles down the road. Particularly when the likes of Elf Power, Drive-By Truckers, The Eskimos, I Am the World Trade Center and countless others keep putting the much larger Atlanta rock scene to shame.
