Best intro to Atlanta history

Unseen Underground Walking Tour

Staff Pick

Sherman might've burned the joint, but it was the automobile that truly destroyed Atlanta. Led by local architect Jeff Morrison, the UNSEEN UNDERGROUND WALKING TOUR is a two-and-a-half mile, three-hour retrospective of the city's railroad roots — and how a fixation with the automobile and neglect of the city's history combined to lead Atlanta astray. Armed with historical photos and a noggin filled with knowledge, Morrison leads small groups under downtown's viaducts and along the same routes where trains once roared and helped make Atlanta a powerhouse. Tours happen intermittently throughout year.
