For bibliophiles, the DECATUR BOOK FESTIVAL
is simply impossible to ignore. The largest independent book festival in the country, DBF brings a staggering lineup of authors to the Atlanta suburb every year to participate in a three-day celebration of the written word. The exhaustive list of writers (more than 250 last year) included everyone from political figures (John Dean) to Pulitzer Prize winners (Natasha Trethewey). Getting mystery fans, poetry lovers, and history buffs into the same room isnt always a simple task (nor does it leave much elbow room more than 70,000 people attended the 2008 festival), but the festival makes it happen through the use of various Decatur venues such as Java Monkey, Agnes Scott and Eddies Attic. Having just completed its fourth year, the fest continues to make its mark as a top shelf Labor Day event. 404-471-6430. www.decaturbookfestival.com.
