The folks from Top Flr have once again transformed an awkward slice of staircases and rooms into a fully functional restaurant and lounge. In the few months since it opened, THE SOUND TABLE — a new star in the nightlife district emerging along Edgewood Avenue — has already brought out some of the more exciting producers and DJs on the national scene, from L.A.'s boogie-monster Dam-Funk to Chicago house legend Larry Heard. Local DJs Kai Alce, Karl Injex, Cullen Cole, Agent 45 and plenty more of Atlanta's sound selectors rotate through the booth nightly, bumping everything from soulful house and disco to rare funk and Afrobeat. The bar pumps out a crafty selection of cold beers while steering clear of the pretentious attitude usually associated with the club scene. Maybe it's the terrific food upstairs; maybe it's the minimal décor; maybe it's the impossibly packed and sweaty dance floor (it gets hot up in here, y'all). But somehow the Sound Table has figured out how to make a nice place fun. 483 Edgewood Ave. 404-835-2534. www.thesoundtable.com.
