Laughing Skull Lounge:
Atlanta's best full-time option for seeing stand-up is an intimate 74-seat venue tucked away in the back of Midtown's Vortex Bar & Grill. Run by Marshall Chiles, an Atlanta comedy veteran who used to run the Funny Farm, the Laughing Skull Lounge has featured Marc Maron, Kyle Kinane, Maria Bamford, and countless other quality stand-ups in the past year. Paul F. Tompkins and Morgan Murphy have filmed specials here, too. 878 Peachtree St. 877-523-3288. laughingskulllounge.com.

Opened in 1982, the Punchline is metro Atlanta's oldest comedy club, having hosted more than 3,000 performers over the years. Located less than a mile off I-285 on Hilderbrand Drive in Sandy Springs, the Punchline's schedule is regularly filled with big names, and you can catch sets from the likes of Hannibal Buress, Colin Quinn, and local CL-favorite Evan Fowler. This year, the club started hosting local nights on Tuesdays. 280 Hilderbrand Drive. 404-252-5233. punchline.com.

Uptown Comedy Corner:
The longest-running African-American comedy club in Atlanta, Uptown Comedy Corner has featured Chris Rock, the Wayans Brothers, Steve Harvey, and Chris Tucker in the more than 20 years it's served Atlanta's Westside. 800 Marietta St. 404-881-0200. uptowncomedy.net.

Relapse Theatre:
This renovated church located on 14th Street near Georgia Tech has a calendar filled with improv shows and classes. But Relapse's real draw is its Thursday night open mics (a favorite of many local comedians) and Saturday night secret shows. For the latter, club headliners like Pete Holmes, Rory Scovel, Todd Glass, and many more have showed up for free sets at 1 a.m. Relapse's secret shows are quickly growing a reputation as some of the best underground/word-of-mouth performances in the country. 380 14th St. 404-343-0347. relapsecomedy.com.
