At the confluence of Peavine and the South Fork

"At the confluence of Peavine and the South Fork, Peachtree Creek turns back hard to the southwest and resumes its general course. A few hundred yards downstream, a broad, flat sewer pipe crosses the creek just below the bridge at Briarcliff Road. Laid in the 1960s as a supplement to the Works Progress Administration's early sewer construction efforts, the system is again today woefully obsolete. A manhole on river right tells the story. The kudzu patch surrounding the manhole is literally covered in dried toilet paper, Band-Aids, condoms, and every other flushable item imaginable. The stench removes any remaining doubt. I portage the pipe, pop a few pictures, and gingerly return to the boat, trying not to get my feet wet."
