The music of Atlanta-based soul singer Anthony David has always been heavily influenced by the sounds of the past. Take his previously released remakes of such '80s pop hits as "Something About You" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." With his latest album, Love Out Loud, David still channels old-school sounds, but this time around he's using nostalgia to subtly flavor his tunes. "Aspiracy Theory" channels the spirit of such bands as Crowded House, while "Official," David's latest duet with local songstress Algebra Blessett, is tinged with hints of such R&B icons as Kashif. That said, the album succeeds by taking David's affection for the past and using it to fuel songs that are intrinsically modern and timeless. (4 out of 5 stars)
