In a brainstorming meeting to come up with a cover idea for the College Guide, CL Publisher Dave Schmall suggested having a student design it. Great idea, except that it was the dead of summer and most students were far from their classrooms.

Well, we decided to go for it anyway, and received some impressive entries. Robert Burroughs, a Georgia State University student, submitted the winning design featured on the College Guide's cover. His bright and graphic collage had the energy we were looking for. In fact, we liked it so much, we invited Robert to come in and collaborate with Senior Art Director John Yardley to create the paper's front cover as well.

SCAD Atlanta student Jessica Hillis was our runner-up with a Tim Burton-esque take on college life. Robert walked away with 100 bucks and two published cover designs; Jessica took home $50.

Take a look at a couple other College Guide student cover submissions and let us know what you think.
